Technology Partner — Proxmox

Database-first server virtualization with the Swing Migration protocol — production stays online throughout.

912 modernizes legacy bare-metal infrastructure to Enterprise KVM/Proxmox with ZFS storage pools, VirtIO para-virtualization, and our signature Swing Migration protocol. The result: 2–4× faster ERP report performance, zero big-bang cutover, and silent-corruption detection that standard file systems miss.

What 912 Deploys

The specific Proxmox capabilities we scope.

Product names identify technologies in scope. They do not by themselves imply partnership, authorization, certification, or a universal recommendation.

Enterprise KVM Hypervisor (Proxmox)

Production-grade hypervisor with built-in clustering, snapshot management, live migration, and encrypted storage. Our default virtualization platform for new and modernized deployments.

ZFS Storage Pools with ARC Caching

Self-healing filesystem with 256-bit checksumming that detects and repairs bit rot. ARC cache dramatically speeds read-heavy ERP workloads on existing hardware.

VirtIO Para-virtualization

Near-bare-metal performance for guest VMs via paravirtualized drivers. Critical for SQL Server and ERP workloads where the virtualization overhead would otherwise be noticeable.

VM Replication & Backup Integration

Mount-point-based rapid DR plus integrated backup manager. Replication between hosts and to cloud targets, with tested restore procedures.

Why Proxmox

How the technology fits an operating decision.

The fit depends on the estate, licences, prerequisites, integrations, people, support responsibilities, and alternatives.

The Swing Migration protocol is the risk-reduction differentiator

Phase I deploys a secondary swing server and live-replicates production VMs — production stays online. Phase II shifts operations to swing, then wipes and modernizes the primary. Phase III migrates VMs back with VirtIO drivers and tested applications. Zero big-bang cutover, full rollback at every step.

Database-first, not CPU-first

Most ERP slowdowns are storage or memory bottlenecks. Processor upgrades on bottlenecked storage don't move the needle. We profile the actual bottleneck before quoting hardware — enterprise SSDs for DB VMs, SAS for less critical workloads, ZFS ARC cache for read-heavy access patterns.

ZFS catches what NTFS and ext4 miss

Silent bit rot is undetectable on standard file systems until it corrupts critical records. ZFS's 256-bit checksumming detects and repairs corruption automatically. Especially valuable for SAP, SYSPRO, and SQL Server data that has to remain trustworthy.

Engagement Model

How 912 deploys Proxmox, step by step.

The cadence we follow on every Proxmox engagement. Slots into the broader 912 six-phase engagement model — see How We Work for the full delivery cadence.

Step 01Phase I — Stage

Deploy a secondary swing server. Live-replicate production VMs. Boot critical ERP and SQL systems for integrity verification — all while the primary stays in production.

Step 02Phase II — Cutover

Shift operations to the swing server. Zero-fill and wipe the primary. Install Enterprise KVM hypervisor and ZFS storage pools. Install hardware upgrades (memory, enterprise SSD/SAS).

Step 03Phase III — Migrate back

Migrate VMs back to the modernized primary. Inject VirtIO drivers. Test applications under production load. Configure backup and replication policies.

Step 04Six-month support included

Post-deployment performance tuning, capacity reviews, and incident response are included in the engagement — not invoiced separately during the bedding-in period.
